I had several gaming consoles growing up, starting with SNES. I never had too have the newest gaming system right when I came out, nor did I want many games for any one system. Gaming was fun, but I wouldn't consider myself an addict/true gamer until I started playing EverQuest. I guess it was the mmo experience that I became addicted to. The interaction with others was more fun then any aspect of any game. EverQuest consumed about 10 years of my life. From 14-24. Failed relationships, poor academics, terrible diet and exercise, bad sleeping habits/schedules. I was hooked. A decade of paying one game. I became a "completionist". I've never played a game with so much to do. I couldn't stand thinking that there wasn't something more to do, and in a game that never ends, that's a terrible feeling. Maxed my level, maxed my alternate abilities three times over, maxed every skill (combat and innate), maxed every trade skill... but that wasnt enough. I joined a hardcore raiding guild. Raided 5 nights a week for 4 to 5 hours a night, always had the best in slot and was ranked top 5 for my class on my server. Still wasn't enough. I began hunting and questing "collectibles". Things that didn't have much use but we're fun to show off, like illusion clickies, and tradeskill modification trophies to increase my skill beyond the cap... Just as I felt I had done it all, they implemented an achievement system. A checklist of trials and accomplishments. "Beat this mission in x minutes", "beat this mission using only fire damage", "complete this raid, this raid, this raid". Thousands of challenges. The only reason I quit playing was because I moved on to other online games. Games with less to do, but great replay value. Like call of duty. A game I can pick up and play for an hour but then is ready to put down. Then comes destiny... it's not something I'm finding easy to put down after an hour.
