Hey guys. I've been mostly averse to the idea of doubling down on the same character class up to now. Some of it was just that I felt bungie meant for us to experience the game as 3 different classes, and some because I just wanted to see how different game might play out in each of the roles.
But lately I've been feeling a lot of pressure (most of it self-imposed) to keep up with the community and my friends who are already level 31 and 32.
I don't raid much because although I log a lot of hours in Destiny, most of it is interrupted frequently with my regular responsibilities, and with breaks to hang out with the family. So it's hard to get my level up so quick without sinking tons of time into farming and leveling once my bounties are done.

What I'm wondering is, how many of you run multiple characters of the same class as a means to maximize the time you spend playing?
Is this an effective method for someone who isn't raiding? Do you see any drawbacks? Do you feel at all like you might be playing the game in a way that was not intended, or just playing smart?
Pvp is the aspect of destiny I love the most, and I just want to get the most out of the time I spend with the game... But I worry I might miss out on some diversity in the experience if I scrap my Titan or Hunter so I can focus on my warlock.

My first/main character is a hunter (blade dancer), then I made a titan. After that I deleted about 6 warlock and hunter characters none ever getting above level 6. Mostly because I didn't enjoy the low level warlock and was unsure of the look of the characters. Finally decided to roll with a second hunter (gunslinger). Got that second hunter to level 27. It was easy as I could give all of my extra gear from first hunter. But my friend and son who run warlocks said, they are awesome if you get them leveled. So I finally deleted my second hunter and moved her gear to my main hunter. I am glad I did. My Warlock is very powerful and a lot of fun to play at higher level, currently level 29. My hunter is closing in on level 31 but I have her dual-spec, both subclasses are maxed and I have all the exotic helmets to benefit both classes. I find myself switching between gunslinger/arc blade and arachnid/mask of the third man helmets a lot depending on what I am fighting. My hunter is still my favorite to play but my warlock has moved past my 28 titan as far as fun playing. I know I probably didn't help your dilemma. But it's up to you and what you want to do and the amount of gaming time you have. I have done it both ways I guess but I do get a lot of gaming in. You can use multiple characters to gear one by making same class. But it has been fun to get one of each class to the higher levels.
