  • Sharp aquos if I remember correctly was supposed to have that super black screen. I never had one but they were crazy expensive iirc. Maybe all sharps aren't the same, but my LG LCD screen is just as nice if not better then my mom's Samsung LED. I really think manufacturer is the key. My next purchase will be a UHD 4k tv, just waiting on price and quality to catch up, I never buy the first run of a new tech. I once bought a 62" DLP tv for like $6K when they were supposed to be the next big thing, it was a great tv and was easy to fix when the bulb burns out every 2 years or so. The plasma wasn't fixable once burned out so I figured it was economical choice, then within a year DLP's were under a grand and now you can hardly find them.

  • i have a sharp aquos. its technically a 3k tv as it has 3 sub-pixels. it up scales to 3k. the blacks aren't close to my Samsung plasma. but i think the worst is the glare. i can't get my room dark enough to counter act it. i decided against 4k because there isn't enough content out yet and there isn't a standard format yet. so that means in a few years your 4k tv may not be compatible with the latest 4k movies/games, ect. i still miss my plasma.

  • So true, remember those first few batches of hdtv before hdmi? They all cost several thousand and were obsolete within a few years of hdmi's release. My old DLP was one of those hdmi-less tv's, the people at the electronic stores used to tell people hdmi won't last because cables were too expensive and it's unneccessary. Now look at the market.

  • as a general rule of thumb, i never buy a "first" of anything. as much as i would like to be the first to have something, it also means i will be the first to have an issue with it. i'd rather wait for others to have the issue, get it fixed and then i will get the product.
