Before the DLC, I never bothered going above level 28 because it looked like there was no reason to get to level 29 or 30, other than Hard Mode VoG and the Iron Banner.
Now that the DLC is here and level cap has been raised, are there any reason to get above level 30? Only reasons that I can see are:
a) Iron Banner: Higher your level, more advantages you have. Unfortunately, because of network lag, I can't play in the Crucible, so this isn't a compelling reason for me.
b) Hard Mode Crota's End: I just find it too hard to organise a raid, so I probably won't be doing this at all, so this isn't a compelling reason for me.
c) Completionist: I can see a reason here, but until I have lots of spare shards and helium, I may hang on to them. When the 2nd DLC hits, I will probably need to trash the current armour set anyway.
All the enemies are 30 or less for Daily Heroic/Weekly/Nightfall, and your armour scales down to the level of the enemy (?) so I don't see a reason. Am I missing something here?

Crotas end is a fraction easier (you can swordbear....thats it.... apparently it makes vog raid gear obsolete too...
-
Your armor doesn't scale down. Also getting a raid group takes about 20 minutes.

Is there any advantage for being above lvl26 if you don't do raids, don't play IB or don't do bounties/daily/weekly/heroic/nightfall? If you do everything the game offers, it's good to be max-lvl...what's the point of your question though?

Well, 31 also helps for normal mode Crota's end because the enemies go up past 30. So there's that. Eventually people won't likely accept anyone under 31 for even the normal raid. And while you can find a group fast enough at 30 for weekly/Nightfall, it goes even faster if you're 31 because it shows you're just a little more dedicated to playing. That said, my priority has been getting to 30 on all 3 of my characters first, then I'll bother about focusing on getting to 31. Because under 30 you are handicapped pretty bad in this content. The dailies are actually pretty rough at 29, at least when it's Black Garden or one of the DLC levels.

The lower your level is the less damage you do, and the more you take, you're lucky to find a raid group that will take anyone under 30 unless they're cheesing. Also for finding a group just look on destinylfg, it can be hit and miss sometimes, but it usually doesn't take too long.

More damage dealt to 31s and up. Less damage taken from 31s and up. Hard mode 33s are gonna be brutal to 31 guardians
-
More damage dealt and less taken in. That is all.
-
The only reason is that they are literally handing out 31s which require minimal effort

It is so easy to get to lvl 31...........I haven't been playing very long so I'm not there yet only because I haven't been able to just farm Shards like crazy, lol. I would be 31 right now if I had more shards. I will try to get to 32 just because it's a challenge! But I'm not going to agonize over it, lol.
