So, before I go making any claims, let me explain what led me to this thought.
Let's start with the Exotic Pulse Rifle, Bad Juju which is obtained from the Exotic weapon bounty "Toland's Legacy".

If you look on the side of the gun there are 4 symbols lined up in an intersecting row. These symbols are all that of a green triangle which has lines that stretch between the center of the triangle to each of it's inside corners. A similar symbol is also present as the symbol for Bad Juju's unique exotic perk "String of Curses." It is well known that Toland the Shattered, a Warlock who seems to have taken an unhealthy interest in the Darkness (the Hive specifically it seems) was the designer of Bad Juju. During the bounty to obtain this weapon the Gunsmith is the one who actually builds the gun for you, I don't think he would randomly paint this symbol on the gun without it being included in Toland's design.
Now on to Thorn.
http://destiny.wikia.com/wiki/Thorn
If you follow the link to Thorn's wiki page you'll find an image towards the bottom of the page displaying Thorn's projectiles sticking out of a wall, but the important thing to see here is the gun itself. Look closely at that green triangle just above the hammer, it took me a while to notice it but it appears to be the same symbol as that of Bad Juju, lines that go between the center and each inside corner. Knowing Bungie, I highly doubt this is a coincidence. But what could this mean? Lets list the major things these two guns have in common.
- They share a symbol, the triangle with the 3 interior lines.
- They appear to be heavily influenced by the Hive in some form. Thorn is obviously Hive based and Bad Juju's green flame effect is distinctly Hive oriented as well.
- (loose association) They both have some reference to a curse of some sort. Thorn is often described as being cursed and Bad Juju's special perk is called "String of Curses."
So, rather than make some bold claim, I'd like to ask a few questions to get people thinking.
1. Is the triangle symbol the symbol of Toland himself, of The Weapons of Sorrow (of which Thorn is one), or something else?
2. Did Toland design and/or create the Weapons of Sorrow?
3. If not, were they a source of inspiration for Bad Juju? Perhaps an attempt by Toland to create his own Weapon of Sorrow?
