When I was taking Maths 171(Calculus) in university we were theoretically learning to solve integrals using the substitution method.
The lecturer taught us to use the "Guess Method".
Whereby you "guess" the answer.
Helps if you're a mathematician who has been teaching the same questions for 20 years.
