I got it the second week the game was out from a random purple engram. Gyptach had been drinking heavily that day.

It was a lot easier to get exotics back in the first 2-3 weeks of the game's life. I got MIDA, Hardlight, and universal remote plus a bunch of armor. Now I haven't had an exotic from a legendary in months and the last one was a crappy helmet I already had.
