How can 12 million people be playing destiny, when there is only 7 million people on earth?

I don't know about the rest of you but I have 3 different PS4's going at all times. I just switch to another system during loading screens and move just often enough not to get kicked back to orbit. It's called multitasking... It's hell trying to find a group that can carry my personal fire team through the raid though. People really suck at this game.
