Anything by Studio Ghibli is probably a good start. They're all movies, so you can sample the medium without dumping a ton of time into it.
No matter what everyone else says, don't watch Sword Art Online. Not for your first tasting at least.
What western shows/movies are you into?

Well it depends what I'm in the mood for. I like all kinds, so I'll just list what comes to mind... The Professional, crouching Tiger hidden Dragon, man on fire, the quick and the dead... I like Tim Burton and Tarantino's work. Lol!

Edited by Demagogue: 12/27/2014 5:49:30 PMIf you like Burton you'll probably like Ghibli, it's not really morbid but it's otherworldly. But it sounds like you like action/triller stuff quite a bit too. Death Note might be good. It's about this high-stakes battle of wills between two geniuses, but guns do come out in the second half, and it's got a very dark atmosphere. If you just want straight action though I would recommend Black Lagoon. Everything is just so completely outrageous in the best way possible. It's almost a parody, but it still manages to be serious when it needs to be.

Thank you! :) Death note is first in line, so I'm glad to hear ya suggesting it
