Hey guys new 20+ questions

So im currently level 24 from doing a mix of strikes, dailies, and one weekly strike. Does higher light level gear drop from level 24 strikes? Or do I need to do something different? Im currently also in need of more Vanguard rep and bounty-less, any good way to grind rep without it? In addition, I have no xbox live friends so if anyone wants to play that would be awesome. I dont currently have an xbox mic but can talk over skype from PC if others are willing. Thanks for everything

  • Don't rely on random legendary gear dropping. Just do strikes, patrols and even bounty glitch. Buy vanguard gear then do the raid.

I was was rank 8 vanguard before I started leveling a faction. I would recommend getting to rank 4 or 5 vanguard so you have a couple commendations, then buy gear with marks and level a faction. Once you get the vanguard gear you can do vault of glass for shards to upgrade it, then once you're 30-31 you can do Crotas end (if you have the dlc)

  • Just know that if you level up any faction other than vanguard you MUST have crucible marks to buy gear. It's best to just level up vanguard and buy vanguard gear then focus on leveling up a faction. Vanguard marks are the easiest to come by. Unless you're strictly playing crucible. But chances are, you're not.

  • Bounties and patrols.. You need gear from vanguard. Patrols are way faster than grinding strikes.

  • Rank up vanguard by doing bounties then buy gear

  • Strikes from vanguard playlist are good for marks until you get higher level. Dailies are good for XP and ascendant materials. Weeklies are for strange coins to buy exotics from Xur. You'll want 13 for armor which you need first to level up and 17-23 for weapons. A second character of the same class passing armor through vault speeds things immensely. When you get to 29 (or 27-28 if you have really good friends willing to carry you) then you want Nightfall for a *chance* at an exotic drop and a pretty massive XP buff that lasts until weekly reset (Tuesday 4am EST). Lots of people available to help run Nightfall on Tuesday since that gets the most out of your buff. Also when you get to level 27, some folks may help you through the first 2 parts of Crota raid for a chance at level 32 armor. When you hit 28, you can start the Venus raid on normal and at 30 on hard. Best weapons still only drop from Venus raid on hard mode exclusively. For now, get vanguard marks and buy level 31 armor from vendors. Vanguard and Future War Cult are my favorite.

    • Your best bet for a good foundation of high level armor is to get to vanguard rank 2 and buy armor. Very rarely will you get high level armor from level 24 strikes :/

You get a commendation by leveling up the rep for one of the factions/crucible/vanguard, but only once you hit rank 3. You can send your rep from bounties and patrol missions to a faction by wearing one of their class items (which you can buy at anytime with glimmer). Once you have done all of your bounties there is really only one way to get rep...and that's patrol missions. Or if you want crucible rep then you have to play crucible. Edit: Higher level gear CAN drop from the strikes but will be rare...if you have enough marks you can buy light 33 gear from the vanguard. You don't need a commendation for the boots or the gauntlets.

        • Do the patrol missions in order to gain vanguard rep. It might be a bit tedious, but you technically won't HAVE to level your rep past rank 3 (I believe.) So it's only a temporary torture.

          • Just buy light 33 gear with marks that you earn from the venders and you can shoot up to level 31.

            • I'm in the same boat. Suck at 24 with my blade dancer. In order to join a faction you have to buy their gear and in order to do that you need crucible commendation which I don't know how to get. I'd also be happy to play with you add me: BGKALLDAY

                • You can get rare items but they eventually max out on light. The new DLC rare items may get you a bit more light. The best thing to do is start grinding rep and marks. If crucible is your thing you can pick one of the factions and all your rep can go to one of them. That includes strikes and all bounties.
