Pokémon Red was the GAME that got me into it.
But before that, somehow, the Pokémon anime got me into it.

Well, I meant doing it completely solo without any trades or help. I mean, you can transfer from 1st gen to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd, transport from 3rd to 4th and so forth.
