Crota Raid Legit Strategies

Since cheesing parts of the Crota raid seem to be commonplace now I felt the need to start a thread where people can share legit strategies they are using to beat the raid. Many aren't finding fireteams to do it legit so this should also help us connect. Lamps Two options: Strategy A - we wait to get everyone's super up before running to lamp 1 - first to the lamp turn and shoot at back to clear thrall off last person - first to lamp calls out direction to run - leave when weight is 2x - leader calls out holes - at bridge we step on plate then go to lamp to reduce weight and 2 jump on rocks to left to snipe ogres (thrall can't reach you) - rest focus on thrall and Knights while hanging around the plate Recommended weapons - Vex mythoclast - ice breaker - gjallahorn for ogre (tracking is great) - any machine gun - weapons that cause explosion with precision kills (takes out packs) Strategy B - send a Hunter with invisibility through the lamp maze, they activate plate and make it across bridge (kill ogre and hide from rest) I've done this but the person has to be really good with their hunter and have the right setup. Swordbearer Bridge Our plan is simple: - 2 on each totem (1 underneath and 1 up high), 2 center - once the light pops on the plate you don't need to sit on it so find the Swordbearer - kill Swordbearer after bridge almost built - grab sword, cross bridge and only use right trigger slam to kill (3 slams does it) - bridge crosser gets high and team rinses and repeats - when 3 are across then they stand under totems and repeat, leaving home team to focus on sword bearer 2nd chest The door to the chest closes after a while when the two shriekers are destroyed so timing is key. If you die to far up then you get a new checkpoint where you can't get the chest so either get it or wipe closer to the first shrieker. The strategy we have used so far is 1 person with gjallahorn handles shriekers only, 1 person, usually a hunter, runs ahead of everyone including the first shrieker - rest of team concentrates fire to kill thrall ahead of the runner to clear a path - no need to revive anyone as they come back when the runner gets in the door Deathsinger - run to back platform skipping the Knights - jump upstairs (I use rocks on the far left) - draw out the Wizards on right and left at the same time to kill them - 1 person on each side rockets the shriekers - everyone alive converge on last wizard, Ir Yut, in center room, get up high on ledges around room Recommended weapons - Vision of Confluence - Vex mythoclast - Icebreaker - Blackhammer - Gjallahorn - Hezens Vengeance - Dragon's Breath - Patience and Time - Fatebringer - Song of Ir Yut Crota Your health will not regen unless you have the chalice and dying causes his Oversoul gaze to start and kill everyone - everyone in left room - 2 people assigned to only kill boomer Knights top left - rest kill Swordbearer and clear thrall/Knights - when player with sword in position, 2 people fire rockets on Crota to bring him down - sword runs to Crota pressing right bumper, right bumper, right trigger two times - rinse and repeat again once - ogres will come out after 2 Swordbearers are killed or if Crota moved to left, back to center then right. Safest plan is to make a dash back to the room below the hole we fell in after the 2nd chest - snipe ogres from safety then head back out and repeat initial strategy. Should take no more than two sword runs but three should be the worst case for a solid team. Feel free to share your own strategies (or make corrections).

  • We were at the sword bearer bridge. When we sent guys across they would die too easily or the totems would turn red on the other side of the bridge killing everyone. Any other tips?

    • I put on my hunters Don't Touch Me gauntlets and stroll to the end of the lamps, pausing to send game invites to my buddies for the first drop :)

    • This seems like a good spot to raise this question... A little before halfway through the lamps, between 8 &9 if you're counting or just after the 3rd left turn there is an elevated door in the wall to the right. The light was on this door when we tried it but we were too heavy to make the jump and lamp 9 had already blown so we couldn't shed the weight and come back. Question is, Has anyone gotten a chest behind this door? Can anyone verify if this is just another location for the one chest in this area (like the doors to the left at the beginning) or is this potentially a 2nd chest?

      • During Ir Yut it is better to enter the chamber from the left door (direction when facing crystal and Crota would be behind you). As you can clear this side easier with less Ads while shooting the singer. Also once she starts her liturgy she will stop moving and take more damage.

      • I need additional tips for Crota. I've gone three weeks and about 40 random forum groups and cannot kill Crota legit. We are only giving a tiiiny sliver of health from him with each sword. I haven't been fortunate to join a random group with ghorns and icebreakers. Not gonna be "that guy" that required those items for a group either. Suggestions?

        • Good ideas. On the lamps: Option B would work if the hunter can stay invisible and make it across the bridge. If the hunter dies and rest of group has to catch up there are way too many enemies spawned. Another tactic is to have 4 start the lamp maze and 2 hold back and start when the leaders have cleared the mobs. This way they can revive the others along the way. then you typically have 4-5 healthy guardians rolling up on the mob that surrounds where the last guy fell. Everyone can then make the push up to the bridge together. We pretty consistently made it to 4-5 lamps from the end (2nd knight) as the point we regrouped doing this. Option C (d?) Is to forget the lamps and work around the inside wall. You'll move slow, but it is a much shorter distance and limits the approach angle of the mobs against you. You'll still cross the last 4 lamps this way to shed the weight before the end.
