(Don't worry, this thread isn't about bashing the Sunsinger, read the title; and please, keep the insults about my mother light :) )
Lately people have been bashing the usefulness of the Sunsinger warlock subclass... And I can't help but go along with it.
When I knew I was getting Destiny, I did my research on the Warlock subclasses, as I knew I wanted to be a warlock ever since that first e3 vidoc. Now when I first saw the name "Sunsinger" I immediately thought "Oh, so it's like a healer?".
If you ask me that's what the Sunsinger sub should've been all along, a Healer, not some boring old grenade spammer. And the more I think about it the more I see this subclass fitting into the world of Destiny.
[Other MMOers and RPGers can understand what I'm going through here, honestly, why is it Destiny try's to act like an RPG but doesn't actually do anything RPG-wise; but I suppose that's a conversation for a later day.]
Here are my ideas on the subject:
The warlock's melee would, when hitting a teammate, take off a portion of their super energy in addition to melee, but heal the player from a distance.
The Warlock's super would create a ring around the caster that, when a teammate would step in, would increase health regeneration by 20-30%. This Ring, unlike the Ward, would follow the caster but he himself would not heal any faster as to keep things on an even playing field.
Perhaps this might seem overpowered to you other classes, but just stay with me here for a moment. Isn't the Suros op? Would you argue the Titan Ward is op? With the right amount of fine tuning I believe bungie could do this for a fix on the Sunsinger (In my opinion, and other mmo/RPG players what it properly should be); or gift this to another class, for future DLC maybe? Or better yet! As a free piece of content for Bungie's loyal fanbase! (Yeah... That'll happen)
For those of you who actually want to help your team in addition to also getting kills (I know there has to be Some of you out there!) this could be a worthy addition to a coming DLC that I would love to take part in!
TL:DR
New Healer Subclass Addition
• Melee directly heals Teammates (Still damages enemies)
• Super creates a "Ring of Healing" that increases Health Regeneration much faster by 20-30% and follows the caster (Does not affect caster, no faster health rejuvenation)
-New Subclass could be proper way to substitute Sunsinger Conundrum or Add a new future subclass for DLC.
Edit 1: Okay, I can understand why people wouldn't want this. You came from call of duty, never played an MMO, have no sense of team, only play deatmatch, and have never played a good Blood Gulch CTF game in your entire life.
If your one of those people then I get it. But I don't understand it. Destiny isn't exactly encouraging solo-play, so idk. You have fun lone-wolfing it. Although that term is probably lost with Reach.
Edit 2: The "Ring" is a concept I borrowed from Skyrim (A fantastic game for ALL Rpg players) where you can cast a magic protective ring around yourself that heals you and keeps enemies out (Don't remember what it's called, I'll look it up later). Obviously I left the "keeping people out part" for balance but the basic principles are all still there. (I know this didn't originate in skyrim, but that's what I'm thinking of when I think of of a visual representation for the subclass)
Edit 3: Wow! some great feedback here guys! Keep it up!
Edit 4: Trending, wow! I'm going to be posting a response to the most common seen comments and criticisms and provide a link, or I could put it in a normal format other than that, idk. I'll think of something.
Edit 5: I myself have a serious problem with the Orb system that Destiny presents. The orbs are produced but there is no visual indicator (beside some small lines of text in the corner of the screen). For one, the Sunsinger would be a viable subclass for me if there was just more of a visual representation of how your actually helping your teammates.
1. "Using a healer would be useless and would not fit into Destiny at all, and there would never be a situation where we would actually use this."
Obviously what we're talking about isn't a straight up in the most technical term "Healer", what we're discussing is some who can manipulate that period in your shields when they are completely down. That is our target picture where this would be useful.
That being said, I do believe a "Healer", noting it as the term we've laid above would be useful and could base itself I'm the world of Destiny based on one simple fact, every player ALREADY has a regeneration factor that can be changed in your subclass with special perks. The super would manipulate this factor for everyone by a significant percent to essentially where they could keep shooting an enemy and regenerate much "health".
When I think of when and where this could be useful I imagine myself behind that one door and pressure area we all know of in Blind Watch, the common Mars map in most game types. Say while a warlock is closer against the railing still shooting but behind cover the Titans could jump out of cover and shoot the enemy while he runs from the warlocks bullets, effectively earning the kill and the warlock gaining a support accomedation.
P.S- for anyone interested in a good group of friends to find for raiding and such, join us in the Xbox Clan: HolyHandGrenade.

Sounds really good! Just one question, what is their grenades? Maybe a grenade that would give them a short buff to weapon stability, regen or maybe night vision?(could be useful for the abyss)
-
Pretty cool idea! I'd like to see somthing like that implemented into the game!
-
And also hunters can regenerate when they deal damage with blade dancer.
-
Umm the warlock can heal himself with a void melee and also replenish other guardians super energy. What more do you want? Stop being so greedy. Just because the warlock is godly he's still not a god.
-
there's no need for a healer when your health regenerates. that's about as useful as a level 2 weapon in the Raid. I thin warlock Arc subclass should have you summon lightning from the sky! SURELY that's badass, right?
-
Probably the silliest thing ive read in these forums. You regenerate health so quick. If you focus of recovery you'll regenerate faster.
-
Destiny isn't an mmo and there's a reason there's no healer, Bungie didn't want ppl to have set roles, they want everyone to take part in everything, be it holding a relic, hitting a boss or completing objecties, they didn't want ppl to be set to tank, healer and dps.
-
I'd also like a healing/tank subclass Obv healing for locks, tank for titan. No matter what new subclasses i'm still stickin with hunter, through thick and thin baby
-
We are getting an arc subclass later this year in the comet pack as are the other classes (hunter-void titan-solar) so I hope it's a support class that buffs the party.
-
Healer was subbed for support (defender, Sunginer)

This is a terrible, terrible idea. This is coming from a former hardcore raider from three different MMO. Be ready not to be able to do anything because their wont be any healers. Also be ready to have to have healers since Bungie will have to balance everything around raids having healers, since if they don't, healers will trivialize content. Also, get ready to at in third person with a keyboard and mouse.
-
Hide and everyone is a healer
-
Trollololo I got my melee Teammates: NO STAY AWAY MY SUPERS ALMOST CHARGED warlock melees them GOD DAMNIT MY SUPER WAS ALMOST CHARGED
-
I played EQ for 7 years and wow for 6 years... This is a retarded ass idea. As much as it has a template of a mmorpg.... It isnt... Its not even close to an mmo with the game worlslimited to 16 players and the tower limited to 16 players. If the game world was vast and every player on the 4 consoles were in the same tower same world then yes it could be then classified as a mmo... As for the rpg factor... It doesnt even have that... It could barely be called a mmofps... So no a "healing class" isnt needed... Its called be being aware of whats around you and moving into cover not juat standing still and eating bullets.
-
I don't think the ring idea is op at all. Its perfect risk/reward. After all, one well placed Nova/FoH and, well you know.
-
Comet DLC will add new subclasses. Clench your buttcheeks and hope for healz
-
Amazing Idea sir, though I would like to argue that Exotics and supers are meant to be OP!
-
If the team cool down buff would also affect heath and/or shields then this would be taken care of and maybe more people will use it.
-
If you put armor of light on the titan's ward of dawn it gives teammates an extra shield. It's not healing but useful, especially when raiding or pvp.
-
Nah bro. Main reason why...because we can already heal. Get behind a rock for a few seconds. I like the thought though, because we do need a team focused subclass. Although I do love Song of Flame, and so do my teammates. But this is an FPS first and foremost, you must keep that in mind.
-
we have this already its called a Defender Titan
-
Why does it need a healing class..when everyone has health regen after 6 seconds..? that doesnt even make sense. this isnt like a traditional MMO in which you have to use a potion to heal. So no, a healer is not needed.
-
I think that's a fun idea but how useful would a healer be, really? We rarely have trouble with the strikes, our health and shield self regens as long as you can stay out of the fight for 3 seconds, raids are done in a 6 man team and if each member is at least a decent player, there will be very few deaths, which you can be revived out of. And speaking of which, deaths do not really punish you in this game, save for the nightfall and raid, to a certain extent. Just to clarify im not against your idea, i think its great to have a support-focused subclass, but just questioning the utility of it.

I love the idea of a healer subclass, but it would only work if two things changed about Destiny. 1: We would need more health. Sure, we have more health than say a game like CoD, but we don't have the gaping health pools of a traditional MMO character. In games like WoW, TERA, SWTOR, or Guild Wars, both players and enemies have huge amounts of health, and battles can last quite some time. This benefits the healer because they have more time to recognize when a player is near death, get to them, and pop the heal. I personally don't think there'd really be enough time for this in a Destiny firefight. 2: We would need a better way of seeing teammates' remaining health. Currently we only have the tiny "!" That pops up next to an ally's name to show us that they're in danger. Most MMOs handle this quite easily by allowing anyone in a group to see every ally's health bar on the side of the screen. If Bungie were to add this they could even display the super bar status underneath the health bar. I could be wrong about either of these things, but in my opinion at least the second option should be added if a healer class is to be implemented.
