Well there's a third subclass coming for all classes as there's a third free spot in class selection and heavily rumoured to come With the house of wolves dlc, wait and see and I like your ideas

The recent leak shows that the 3rd class is coming in September with the huge COMET expansion. Look on these forums for the leaked Bungie meeting pic.

Oh ok so I'm half right, I said house of wolves as as at the time that was the only other known dlc

Pretty sure the empty space was from what they called "locked in" you could lock in a setup from a subclass and it gave you some sort of bonus for those selected abilities.

Well the location of locking a class was on the middle right of the class skill tree

No. They had a way to "lock" a subclass is what they said. When you locked the subclass it would give you better perks. Not a 3rd Subclass.
