What happened to that awesome franchise Halo? Who now owns it? Complexity and solely? Who uses the intellectual property to further there other products?
Would you want to give them your next baby too or hopefully retain most of it? Even if the decision was just made out of spite?
Microsoft is the answer. They own all intellectual property relating to Halo. They use it and it's characters for profit in other areas. Cortona phone assistant, Spartan browser. They also took bungie employees to make 343 studios to make more halo games. As well as forcing Reach. I'm not 100% positive on this. But I recall Bungie being done after halo 3 and Microsoft wanted another game. Hence Reach.
Ummmm......the contract between microsoft and bungie, when Microsoft saved them from bankruptcy, clearly stated bungie was on the hook for 5 games. So they HAD to make odst and reach. Fuking idiot.

Whoops my bad. Thanks for being so polite in correcting my mistake. You don't think there was a little resentment that they don't own anything related at all to the franchise they created, albeit with Microsoft's help?

But odst was originally an expansion. They spun it off to fulfill their end of that deal sooner

Yes I remember that. And Reach could have been a post halo 3 game as well no? They may have been obligated. But they seemed tired at that point. Reach was drastically different from the other 4 in what they introduced into game play mechanics. That was part of the reason it was so polarized in its receiving by gamers.
