Just money, a way for a ceo/manager to bring in more cash for the charts. Every year they have to make more profit/money than the last year. And they'll try anything to make that happen. Most times, even if it hurts the customer base. These management people are blinded by the charts and they never see the full picture only in retrospect. All companies are the same. And I've worked for various corporations and been around the executives. I know this is their way of thinking.
