[You guys came up with so many great ideas. I really wish Bungie had a look at the comments here.]
Come on, Bungie, give us the freedom to choose whatever suits our style best and don't let those awesome weapons you've designed become obsolete. Actually, don't let the stunning Vault of Glass (best content in the game) be consumed by the darkness.
I believe that Raids and its weapons should always be the at level cap. More weapons to choose from, more content to play.
Weapons are mostly situational and mixing them is part of a successful strategy (it's fun too). Having more to choose from just add to the game.
Edit: I'm not suggesting to automatically turn them into 331 attack weapons. Just give us a way to upgrade them to the current attack cap. I bet you guys can implement it in a sensible way.
Why would we go against the idea of having more relevant weapons at our disposal? It's like saying "I'd rather have less weapons, less content". Let's not be passively attached to an old format. Destiny is something new with immense potential.

Some great comments Bungie should pay some attention to:

"But what they decide to do with VOG weapons speaks to the future of the current raid weapons as well. Right now, there is an expiration date on my Fatebringer and that sucks, supremely, but now that same feeling isn't too far for my Black Hammer either. I'd like to carry these weapons with me as long as I am playing Destiny. Yeah, future weapons maybe better and I end up scraping these guns one day but I'd like to be able to decide for myself versus having no choice in the matter. Just my take on the situation".

"The problem lies within the way they have designed the upgrading system. They are going to have to re work how you upgrade weapons and armor. Yeah they could just update the VOC gear up to 32 and 331 but what happens when the House of Wolves comes out? Then they are going to have to update both Dark Below and VOC all over again the prevent them from being obsolete. They need to just make it were the players can choose the path they want to take. You choose what armor and weapons you want to upgrade to the highest rank. I mean make it a difficult task. I wouldn't mind the challenge and it would inspire players to be more creative with their characters rather than every single person wearing the same gear".

"Upgrading older legendary weapons could finally give a use for the Gunsmith beyond buying ammo and weapons at a low level. Not to mention it would help provide a larger variety of "good" weapons so that we would have more things to work towards. After all the various DLC's are done, just imagine how varied the weapon and armor selection would be. (Speaking of which, vendors should be able to upgrade armor as well.)"

I wanted fate bringer so bad until my friend told me it was only 300

Bump. Keep all the raids relevant.

They should have worked progression out better. Have VoG gear drop more frequent but have it so vendor armor will get you to 28 only then have people have to run VoG to get gear to 30 then Crota to 32 and so on. That way content stays fresh. Also the weapons never really die in the crucible. I'm still using my found verdict in crucible due to the range.

The arguements made here are valid but at the same time MMOs, which Destiny pretty much is, are designed to release content and gear that are good but new better gear comes out to replace the old. Although guns like Fatebringer and Black Hammer are amazing there always can be a gun that is even better than they are. If you could just keep upgrading their dmg to meet new content what would be the point of releasing new weapons at all? A lot of MMO players know that at one point you have to say goodbye to your old gear and welcome the new

Updated weapons: yes via gunsmith. Upgrade armor: no, instead the glamor/transmog slots that got their attention in November.

Other games make gear irrelevant all the time. No big deal imo. Sounds like you all have never played progression based games. No one complains that their level 50 weapons in Everquest, WoW, or RIFT should be automatically or otherwise upgraded to be current. If that was the case why would you ever run new raids if old gear never got old?
-
Only problem is wouldn't that almost make Crota's End irrelevant?

The way I personally think this could work, after reading other posts and some of my own ideas is. The way I read it, the level cap is going to be at 34 with HOW? (Feel free to correct me if I am wrong). Up the level of VOG to 33 and make the HOW normal raid 33. Run VOG to RNG for upgraded armor, or to RNG for some type of "crux" that will get your VOG armor to level 32. CE armor will stay the same. Level 33 HOW will allow you to acquire raid hear to get you to level 34. Weapons in VOG and CE level 33 will be upgraded to max attack and either obtained by RNG or said "crux" to upgrade. The HOW weapons will run like normal. Normal gives you specials and heavies, hard mode (either level 34 or 35) will give you primaries/exotic. Make the HOW weapons have good stats/perks comparable to VOG weapons (or CE special/heavies). This way your old raid gear will level up to appropriate level for higher raid level, but new raid gear will still be higher making it more coveted since it is the newer DLC. And if weapons are comparable, the stop being which one do I like better and more, which one is better for which situation. Or something similar where the new raid armor is still a higher level, but old raid gear can get up to an increased level for the specific raids. Anyway, just a thought.

No. Make us run VoG for new weapons.
-
We can't just keep all our weapons. In the case of legendary weapons, who wouldn't use Fatebringer? No one. The guns need to be outdone or nothing will ever change.
-
Although I love fatebringer VOG weps shouldn't be 331 it would make crota ones irrelivent

You must be new to RPG style games

Signed.

Dismantle 10 fatebringer for their cores and then you can enhance it up to ce 331 cap you need 20 to 50 for how depending on the rarity

Signed. I'm interested to see what they're going to do since they acknowledged this is an issue. They don't want the Raid gear to become obsolete.

Yes. Give us an option to upgrade our VoG Gear and weapons.
