The Compendium: The Traveler

As you know the traveler gives us powers we would not have otherwise. In game however doesn't do a good job explain the strenuous work put in to achieving them. It's not as simple as saying "cool I've been touched by the light let's be a gunslinger" and boom golden gun. The easiest to explain this through is the warlock class. From grimoire cards I've learned that the warlocks actually would use the spine of ahamkara to enhance their power. They would study the void endlessly, and also the sun. That is where the two subclasses came from. They would study and study and search got knowledge over strength to become more powerful in their own way. It could be said for hunters they studied the arts of the woodsman, the way of tracking and not being tracked yourself. They studied the most efficient way to dispose of our enemy, the scouts of the city. Titans could be said to have searched for true strength in their own bodies, pushing it to the absolute limits ready to squash any enemy that gets too close. It's a popular belief that the traveler is the darkness, that the traveler is evil, that the traveler wants to destroy the universe. I disagree with these claims. The traveler is no where near righteous or even good, but it is not evil either. It is selfish, worried for only itself. Pursued by the darkness and it's army it "hid" on mars. The only other place that would have been more obvious that it wanted to be found would have been a freaking starbucks. The traveler wanted an army and chose wisely, we are savages endlessly fighting each other over meaningless issues, and pointed in the right direction fought aliens we knew next to nothing about. The traveler helped us advance, but not for our own well being or for our own splendors, but to one day be advanced enough to survive and defeat the darkness that chases it. It didn't even end there though. If some alien ball showed up and said "hey save me from armies of darkness" we'd tell it to -blam!- off, but it made us love it, convinced us it was our ally and closest friend. The traveler is smart, and ruthless, and uncaring. It created the ghosts and went into it's coma to leave the front lines and let us fight for it. It can not be trusted. The darkness is it's dark mirror. It is the same as the traveler in every way only different in it's atomic structure. It grants powers just as the traveler has and will stop at nothing to destroy us. To go back to the compendium, use the link below: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/89722085/0/0
