So I have been playing off and on since launch and reached level 30 last week without raiding. So all my gear is Vanguard stuff with only 1 or 2 exotics from Xur. After going on a couple raids with group mates, I felt like a complete noob. It was almost like they were speaking a different language with the names of weapons, armor, etc. It was one thing to not be familiar with VoG, but I just felt like I was not doing any damage at all, even though Primary weapon was maxed out. Are those raid weapons that much better? Should my armor complement my weapons....as in how important is it that my boots have extra hand cannon ammo if that is my weapon of choice. Up until now, I had just been taking what was available from the Vanguard and whatever weapon I was using at the time. I really enjoy this game, but after playing with some groups wondering if I am missing something. While no game pro, I have been playing games going back to original NES, so hopefully it's not my overall general skill, but maybe so. Any thoughts or suggestions?

raids are good because you can get primary weapons with element damage (like last night the omnigal mission where the wizards had solar shields). which for the likes of nightfalls is really helpful. when the game boosted top level missions to 30 it meant that the previous level advantage you had was gone. so the bad guys will be harder to kill. thats why people are playing so much crota to get to level 32 so they get the max level and make the game easier to play. raid weapons to tend to be quite powerful and in raids you can drop exotics also. once you get up to 31 you should see your damage increase again and also 32 if you run the crota raids. but like below it does help building an armour set to complement your style and weapons. adds to ammo carries and faster reloads which are really helpful.
