Iv'e saved the day with nova bomb quite often as well. So I guess that makes it a crutch. Oh, and my friend saves the day using his bubble, too. Guess it's a crutch. Hell, by your logic, all supers are crutches. Let's just remove all the supers, cause obviously they're only used by players who are weak.
