Later that night, Holly returns home from what appears to be a night out with a now drunk gentleman. She hides in her bathroom as the drunk man pounds on the door asking her to let him in. Seeking a means of escape, Holly puts on a bathrobe and escapes out the window and onto the fire escape, climbing up it to see Paul Varjak asleep in his bed, and the "decorator" leaving his room, placing three hundred dollars on his nightstand and then walking out the door.
