Anyone know/speculate why the gift wasn't on 25th December?

At least you're getting something out of it. If nothing else, you can dismantle for materials to upgrade others. It's better than nothing.

At this stage I have ascendant energy coming out my ears (but I'd kill for shards - if only they could be traded!) but you are right. One shouldn't moan about anything that's free - they didn't have to give anything so it is a nice gesture.
