They should have given out a random exotic to everyone, now that would have been an amazing token of appreciation. Bungie should know that people probably don't care about legendary stuff, but the simple fact that they actually gave us something is apparently good enough, which is why they could have given us anything. We could have been given 5 decoherent engrams and everyone would still be saying "at least we got something, they didn't have to". If I ran Bungie, I'd have given the exotics because I know everyone would love it.
