In a lot of other games it is your character that dictates your play style and new gear just means higher stats.
With destiny the perks on the weapons play a major role with your character. They should stay relevant.

New weapons should be made with new or different combinations of perks so people can find that new favorite weapon. In my opinion using the same 3-5 weapons is boring.
