From what I've read here you are literate, thoughtful, and value others opinions. Something to do in the future could be writing a memoir, as you have an interesting life. I can't blame you for the drugs, as I have been curious myself. I say that being one of the smartest kids in my school. Keep it up with your girl, and prove her parents wrong.
