I personally think that rasputin has a larger role in this, rasputin could have been the one that drove the darkness away and sent humanity into the collapse, some grimoire cards hints to a warmind that fought the darkness and lost, but the warmind survived. For what we know, rasputin might have gathered some information about the darkness that can help us the next time it strikes. Im not completely sure about this but it feels like something that could be true, a guy named marzsie did a video about this i think, look it up if u want to or just look in the grimoire cards about rasputin or the warminds.
