In the opening scene when the astronauts are walking and the mountain chain is changing. Would this support Dr. Shims theory that we are trapped in a Vex simulation and it's showing the alternate simulation timelines. All very similar but have different outcomes. Would the Stranger have come from another timeline or from another simulation that had a different outcome and was further along? She knew where we would be on Earth, she knew we were going to the Moon. She knows the steps through our guardians objective but maybe wanted to see how we reacted before she interfered, make sure she could trust us first. Also, with her following us around. When we enter the archive the computer welcomes Dr. Shim. Was she close by and the computer recognized her? Dr. Shim believed they may be in a Vex simulation. Did Shim figure out how to jump from simulation to simulation? Do we know what race Shim was? (Haven't read all of the grimoire yet) If Shim was Human, could Shim have created a subroutine of his/her conciousness to put in an Exo body to carry on with the study of the Vex after he/she died. Would explain the Strangers obsession with the Vex and able to use Vex technology. Just some thoughts I've had. If I am completely off, please feel free to debunk it and I would like to know the grimoire card that does.

  • Another good theory. But it hurts my brain when I dive into these things with different universes or realities.

  • I always thought it was Dr. Shin, with an n, and possibly the same Shin as Shin Malphur.

  • It's Dr. Shim. Look under enemies/Vex/ghost fragment Grimoire cards.

  • I read the cards, where does it refer to this "SHIM" fellow as Dr.? Then again Shin Malphur isn't referenced as Dr. anywhere either. The in-game audio certainly sounds like Dr. Shin however.

  • If you cut subtitles on in the game it reads Dr. Shim.

  • Nice to know. Didn't even know there were subtitles available in the game. Can't even understand what dinklebot is mumbling some of the times, might be worth playing through some of the missions again with them on just to see.

  • The Vex Ghost Fragment cards list his name as Shim.

  • But who is Dr shim? What I always believe is that it was ghost who bypassed security to open the doors to the archives and not our guardians. So would it be correct to assume Ghost was mistaken to be Dr shim? And if so how/why? Could it be Ghost is actually Dr Shim? That his consciousness was entombed in a Ghost shell?

  • If it was the ghost it could have just been an access code that he had from the travelers knowledge so the computer assumed it was Shim based on the access code rather than scanning who entered. I've thought of a lot of theories on this but I do believe that Dr. Shim has a lot to do with later progression of the story whether it be through the Stranger, our Ghost, or even our Guardian.

  • Thw mountains changing are what's known as a "montage."

  • It could be but there are hints of alternate timelines. There is also time travel with the Vex and them actually locking out sections of time and removing them from time and space, and them manipulating those timelines.

  • History always repeats itself I think it was there to show how many times humans had made it to the moon over a very long time. Noticed how drastically the mountains change with every next image. It could indicate how many times they have been wiped from existence only to wait say a million years maybe more to be born into existence or I guess maybe the ghosts could revive everyone and their memories could be wiped so they basically start over. This is why I think the stranger knows your every move because she's seen you over a couple hundred maybe thousand times.

  • Exactly, there are theologies that believe history repeats itself in huge gaps of time like this too. Although it could be a Montage it could be a Montage covering billions of years of the exact same scenario.

  • I know, and that's a totally valid concept to explain many other parts of Destiny. But in the video of the astronauts on Mars, it's a montage.

The existence of Warminds debunks the theory that the game is taking place in a Vex simulation. We never know the outcome of Dr. Shim's experimentation with the "vex platform" but it's pretty safe to assume we, ourselves, are in existence, ......maybe.

  • Oh I believe that we exist, just that we may exist in a simulation. If we aren't in a simulation there is still the alternate universe theory, or time repeating itself?!? over and over through billions of years. Both could explain how the Stranger knows where we will be as well. I believe I read a card that talked about how the Exo's were used to test simulations because there mind was able to handle it and humans could not. Could the Stranger have been through these simulations so many times when she was created and found our alternate universe and saw that it was on the path for the best outcome for the survival of the human race, with some manipulation from her "experiences"? This game and lore leave a lot of questions unanswered and I can't wait to read every grimoire card and experience the story over the next 10 years.
