Sticky controller.

My son eats those hot fries while he plays, now his buttons are sticky. Any one know how to fix this? Controllers are expensive and i don't want to buy a new one.

  • Taking it apart would be the best way to do this. Go to ifixit.com for full detailed instructions with pictures on how to take it apart and reassemble it. Alcohol always works best in cleaning electronics. Just make sure it evaporates.

  • If drop the $60 for a new one. Then keep it locked up. He can use the sticky hot controller and you can use the clean new one.

    • Need to make the rule, no eating hot fries while playing on a 300-600$ machine. And yeah your going to have to open it up, even just cleaning the outside doesn't do much. Had the same problem and didn't fix it and some of the oils from under the buttons got stuck and shorted part of the contact pad and now when I press triangle on that controller my right dpad is pressed as well....it just doesnt make sense..

Use cotton swabs (Q-tips) dipped in isopropyl alcohol while the controller is turned off. Don't turn it back on til all the alcohol has evaporated. If it's the underside of the controller that's sticky (as in the buttons are sticking when you press them down), you're gonna have to open it up and clean it gently with the Q-tips and alcohol. As long as you don't dump the isopropyl alcohol all over the inside, it's not going to ruin the controller and it might actually make the thing work better overall if you happen to swab out any contacts.

      • You can always take apart the controller and clean it that way too.
