Let's take the social experimenting in a different direction. Once again, there is no right or wrong answer, each answer can be inferred for more than the answers itself, and each answer can be related to point of view. However, this time, we are experimenting moral compass with personal convictions about the U.S. Military. We are using a hypothetical situation, that would probably not occur in actuality.
So heres the situation: The U.S Congress approves a draft for a war in the Middle East. Obviously, as there is not a draft currently, so the circumstances that the U.S. Government have observed to send volunteer troops there now has changed, and this is now a substantial matter of national and international security. The "lottery" (a system by which they select draftees) is in place, and you are an appropriate aged male. By laws surrounding a U.S. draft, students are able to finish their semesters, and Seniors in college are allowed to finish the year. After these periods of schooling, you are eligible to be drafted.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And here is the question: How would you personally react to being drafted? Why is this so? And what is your background (student, in the work force, professional, etc.) currently?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also, if you chose to evade the draft, you must keep in mind that you are endangering/revoking your citizenship with the U.S. and are now prohibited from the country. If you are already in the military, then you would presumably be okay with being drafted into the military, and thank you for your service. Also, if you are ineligible currently to be drafted, neglect that, and consider yourself eligible. Answers like "but I is 14 I no military" and "I not from merica" are inadequate for this social experiment.
Finally, every time you vote in a poll and do not comment, you become incredibly hungry, but are not in the mood for anything in your house.

IF YOU ARE NOT AMERICAN OR NOT ELIGIBLE FOR A DRAFT, I DONT CARE. I'M ASKING A HYPOTHETICAL QUESTION. IMAGINE YOU ARE AMERICAN, OR IMAGINE I AM ASKING YOU IF YOUR COUNTRY DRAFTED YOU TO ITS MILITARY IN A WAR SITUATION.

Can't be drafted. I have an illness, that if left unchecked for too long, would kill me. I have needs that the military cannot fill.
-
I have a plan to move to Sweden already. A draft would just expedite matters.

Edited by Flawless : 1/18/2015 8:07:47 AMCompletely dissagree. While I respect the military, I would not want to join , especially in a draft situation. That probably would mean that I would have to be in a combat role fighting for some cause I don't believe in. If that happens I'm leaving the country. That's like the one thing I've been 100% firm on since I was a kid. Its not worth it. Edit: especially if it was in the middle east

As I am Australian there is no way I would enter the U.S army.
-
I experienced military life. The fact is that once you get out your dead to them. Va hospital? A joke! Gi bill and Va loan? Okay thats nice. Do you know how many veterans commit suicide each day? OVER 20 a day. Wounded warriors get snubbed on entitlements and are force fed antidepressants(zombie pills). Id rather fight to get warriors what they signed up for and deserve

Besides the fact that I wouldn't tolerate being dragged from my family and home to go fight, wouldn't tolerate being told how to live with military regulations and discipline, and that I wouldn't tolerate--not at all-- other people yelling orders at me, I don't think I'd ever want to fight in a war, so I would find some way to avoid/evade it. However, it is made more insulting because if you do not consent to it, they punish you. And because of corrupt politics and such, I doubt the war would be over when I finish college in like four or five years. However, by that time I'd have an Engineering degree; maybe I could convince some committee that I would be more useful helping produce resources. Also, because I was on the subject of the selective service a few days ago, does anyone know why registering for it is required to complete a FAFSA application for colleges? And because the official website says that all men between 18 and 26 must register, does that mean you're no longer eligible to be drafted--in the event that happens--once you're 27 years old?
-
The short to this is it should be my choice if I want to sign up or not. No one should be forced to be drafted. I understand they need bodies, but f*** you. I won't be dragged out of my house like a f***ing slave.
-
It is an honor to serve one's country, something most of the punks here could use.
-
I believe the military isn't for everybody yes you love your country. I have seen many people leave the military because it was hard or because they didn't like the life style.
-
Going to be an officer anyways so no thank you enlistment.
-
I would not join. I would go to jail before I fight this oil war. I didnt sign up for it and ignored all calls and mail sent to me. Only time I signed up was after they sent people to my house. I disagree with the reasons we are at war at the moment. On the other side, if the war was for a legitimate reason than I might reconsider my answer.
-
Did my time, ate their bullshit, went to war. Come back nobody gives a shit, get out couldn't get a job at Walmart, stuck doing security work. Have to live with folks because I can't afford to live on my own. So to answer your question, no, I would buy a boat and become an international drifter.
-
While I don't agree with everything the govt does, as a US citizen i feel some sort of sense of duty to my country and the people. So yes, if the draft was reinstated and I was drafted I would go fight for my country. I wouldn't be selfish enough to dodge the draft if a war big enough to cause the draft to be re instated began.
-
I'd evade. I'm not a pussy nor am I scared of combat, but I would not and never will fight for a tyrannical government that rules with a corrupted system. A government that is ruled by the Rothschild, the reptilians.. Why waste my life for the -blam!-ed up system when all war is, is a lust for money. The government would make millions from war funds. I do however thank every single soul that has gone into battle/been drafted.
-
Back in me ol WW1 days, when I met daisy, war was about fighting wrong doings, nowadays, we fight for oil or because we kinda want to go to war. We used to fight because someone bombed pearl harbor, now we fight because someone sent us a mean video on the internet. Unless we go to war because someone blew up the Pentagon or something like that, I ain't goin.
-
My Grandpa had a friend in the drafting agency during veitnam and he let him know that he was probably getting drafted the next week, So he went and joined the Marine National guard to avoid being sent overseas by the draft.
-
I'm generally against going back to the Middle East for another pointless war but I would still go just because my family has been unlucky with drafts in the past and as a result I have an extensive line of ex military personal in my family and they never complained. I think war is just mans way of shooting himself in the foot and I would genuinely have trouble killing another human being knowing they also think their fighting for a righteous reason.
-
You can't draft someone who volunteered.

600TH POST
-
I wouldn't join on my own, but I think I would happily serve if I was drafted
-
I'm skinny as shit, I wouldn't live a day in combat!
-
I would go but refuse to go into combat im morally against killing another man I would be a chef or a medic or an ambulance driver or sumthin
-
I would fail because I'm too unfit
-
Edited by Muttsie: 1/18/2015 4:35:58 AMI'm too much of an airhead, I wouldn't last five minutes unless I get to be the cook. Soooo, I would just try to avoid getting drafted. xD
I live in Arizona in the US, and I'm a college student. '.'
-
Say no because I am Australian.
-
Other: They look at me and revoke my drafting notice because I am in no way fit for the military.
