Let's take the social experimenting in a different direction. Once again, there is no right or wrong answer, each answer can be inferred for more than the answers itself, and each answer can be related to point of view. However, this time, we are experimenting moral compass with personal convictions about the U.S. Military. We are using a hypothetical situation, that would probably not occur in actuality.
So heres the situation: The U.S Congress approves a draft for a war in the Middle East. Obviously, as there is not a draft currently, so the circumstances that the U.S. Government have observed to send volunteer troops there now has changed, and this is now a substantial matter of national and international security. The "lottery" (a system by which they select draftees) is in place, and you are an appropriate aged male. By laws surrounding a U.S. draft, students are able to finish their semesters, and Seniors in college are allowed to finish the year. After these periods of schooling, you are eligible to be drafted.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And here is the question: How would you personally react to being drafted? Why is this so? And what is your background (student, in the work force, professional, etc.) currently?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also, if you chose to evade the draft, you must keep in mind that you are endangering/revoking your citizenship with the U.S. and are now prohibited from the country. If you are already in the military, then you would presumably be okay with being drafted into the military, and thank you for your service. Also, if you are ineligible currently to be drafted, neglect that, and consider yourself eligible. Answers like "but I is 14 I no military" and "I not from merica" are inadequate for this social experiment.
Finally, every time you vote in a poll and do not comment, you become incredibly hungry, but are not in the mood for anything in your house.

IF YOU ARE NOT AMERICAN OR NOT ELIGIBLE FOR A DRAFT, I DONT CARE. I'M ASKING A HYPOTHETICAL QUESTION. IMAGINE YOU ARE AMERICAN, OR IMAGINE I AM ASKING YOU IF YOUR COUNTRY DRAFTED YOU TO ITS MILITARY IN A WAR SITUATION.

I don't morally agree with a draft because I don't feel I should be obligated to throw my life on the line for my country, especially if we would be in the process of fighting a war that I don't support at the time. However, if there is a draft, i'd assume the country would actually be endangered somehow, therefore I don't think that would apply. I, however, wouldn't dodge the draft because I wouldn't want to restrict my ability to travel to or reside in the United States. And besides, with any luck i'd be able to work in the military's mortuary affairs and avoid actually risking my life in frontline conflict. I'm studying to be a mortician in college currently.

I can actually be "drafted" in a small way or another. Since I'm an out of country young adult (20) living and working in Americas, I had to sign up for a program that will help me secure a job without a green card or the like, But in exchange I have to serve should The need to ever arise, once I turn 25 however I will be exempt from this program and given the right to work and live here and pursue bank loans/whatever. What it also said was in some way or another do I won't be drafted and sent to Iraq or Syria, But maybe put on reserves, coast guard something maybe janitorial duty. but on to OP question OtherI'd be scared to serve, But I would serve because I have met the men & woman it turns people into. But I've also seen the physical and mental trauma it does to some, and for that reason Id be scared too, But I'd still serve, Because it would be the most honorable thing to do.
-
You bunch of -blam!-ing cowards.
-
I would be grateful that the government of bees chose me
-
Afghanistan was fun, wouldn't mind going back.
-
Edited by Exodus: 1/16/2015 9:46:19 AMCompletely disagree because I live in Australia and why the -blam!- are they drafting a short, half blind, 18 year old female that barely leaves the house let alone knows other ways of defending herself other than a kick to the balls or scratching eyes out.
-
I would be surprised. But I would be more than happy to serve my country.
-
Morally disagree. While countries do need an army, they can get it through volunteers. However if I was chosen for the draft I wouldn't resist.
-
I could test my FPS skills in real life *rubs hands intensely*
-
I'd be a little sad, but I'd do it unless I was opposed to the war. Then I'd get pregnant so they couldn't
-
I wouldn't like it but how do you say no to duty
i mostly wouldn't like it because I would consider myself too valuable to die but you know what I would still do it
-
No as i do not support the war in the middle east. I would only agree if defending my homeland but i wouldnt try and evade.
-
As much ss I am opposed to war on foreign soil, I would go and only have slight gripes with it. Id man the hell up, receive my rifle, and kill the enemies of my country. Or Id pick up that wrench, and maintain the warplanes of my country because I wanna be a mechanic.
-
I'm not going to fight just because someone said so. Half the reason the middle east hate us is because we won't stay out of their business. I don't fight without a reason, and being drafted isn't a valid reason.
-
Depends on what I'm fighting for. I'm not going to blinding fight against anyone, what if we're the bad guys? You're a coward if you just accept it and fight.
-
fortunately for all these people saying evade and what not they will never have to worry about it for real. the US military has enough volunteers that they turn down most people who try to join. if they needed more it would not have to come to a draft because all the people who got denied before would be taken and plenty more would volunteer as well. the military ismt for everyone id rather have more volunteers than people get drafted who don't want to be here with me.
-
I have no strong feelings one way or another.
-
I don't think congress would let another draft unless it was like someone nuking us or something
-
Id be like"OK,I might need tharepy if i come back...im gonna be hero....this is it
-
Depends on if I agree with the war or not.
-
Honestly, I feel like the people who say they would evade the draft don't realize that the full war hammer of the US government would come down on them. That's not something I'm really prepared to face. Chances are I'd morally disagree, but if I'm called into service I need to serve.
-
Not have to worry about the draft because I'm already enlisted...
-
Would go easily. Now would I be drafted first? Probably not as I am older and was already medically discharged from the USMC. But if they needed me and I could go back to The Corps I would do it.
-
I'm panning to go to the military instead of college. I feel like the only way I would progress in life is to be military-smart and aware. Besides, my neighbor was drafted to go to Vietnam. Poor guy was a technician fixing wires and radio signals until the facility was bombed. The thing I can't forget is when he told me that at night each person would switch off as a guard every 3 hours. He said that at night it was most dangerous because even if you lit up a cigar a sniper could see the light and shoot you. He saw his partner die because of that and quickly gained common sense on the battle grounds of Vietnam, and that inspired me to be military-smart and aware.
-
I'm sort of neutral about the whole thing, really. At least you're batting for the team that has a massive technological victory and a much longer war machine. Provided the US doesn't pull its punches and this ends up being some total war, scorched earth shit, I really wouldn't mind it at all.
-
Ok here's my opinion If my country ever gets invaded then -blam!- yes I'm down for that I'm down to protect my family and homeland But if some greedy bastards told me to go kill some innocent lives for some oil in the ground Id be -blam!- you and -blam!- anyone who'd agree to that agenda.
