Ok so this might be a rather noobish topic. But ive been concerned with it for quite some time and was hoping someone could straighten it out for me. Ive done my fair share of looking on the forums for my answer with no avail.
I currently have a lvl 30 sunsinger warlock. I use the perks that allow my armor rating to be very high. I am very interested in making a titan because of their "tankish status". My armor rating within my subclass menu seems to be comparable with titans from what im seeing. My question is do titans' gear naturally have more defense or is their underlying buffs and/or hidden damage reducers that im unaware of? I would assume that there is no way my lock or a hunter can take as much damage as an equally geared titan of the same lvl, right?
Thanks for your time guys and i hope i can get his figured out soon enough.

I've seen a Titan solo the lamps/abyss section legit on Crota's End by having a little more speed and maxing out toughness as a 31. Never seen any other class take that kind of damage. A key difference with Titans is that the Defender has a melee attack that gives them a temporary shield which drastically reduces incoming damage. This means that they can melee a cursed thrall and not die from the point blank explosion as easily as the other classes. Titans do have more armor than any other class but that seems to be more aesthetics than actually mattering more than the defense rating of the character. Ultimately, yes Titans are the most tank-like class in Destiny because of the perks you can enable, not because their armor has a higher defense rating (it's 1626 at level 32 for everyone that I've seen so far).
