People from other parts of the world always say that we talk with an accent, but I don't hear it. Americans don't have accents, right?

Since you are native to America, the way we speak sounds normal to you. But if a Japanese man speaks English he will talk differently than you so you say he has a Japanese accent. It's the same as when we are trying to speak French around French people. They can spot us from a mile away.

Well if your American you speak in an accent. you don't notice it, similar to how you don't notice you may smell but other people can smell you.
