I guess i just assumed that since Mendicant was a Contender class ancilla, he would be privy to that info.
Then again, even 343 GS didnt know the location of the Ark, or even what it was exactly. So that makes sense.

The Halos were constantly being moved around the galaxy through slipspace, it kept them safely hidden but ended up having negative effects too since it [i]massively[/i] slowed down slipspace 'traffic' to the point where it was decreed that only Lifeworker vessels were allowed to enter slipspace.

343 didn't "remember" the location of the Ark due to the compartmentalization of his memory. While Mendicant was massively advanced and had access to a ridiculous amount of information, many things were kept from him after his betrayal to the Flood.
