The fact that most people are happy, comfortable and at ease in their given situation? I'm glad that most people are happy. But there are some who are not. And, as you mentioned, they have options and decisions to make as to what they want to do about/with their situation and their life.
If someone chooses to accept their situation? I respect their ability to choose to do so.
If someone decides to alter their situation? I still respect their ability to choose to do so.
If someone chooses to be miserable and (as you said) "shake their fist"? Well, it is their choice , but IMO, it's the least productive of the alternatives.
As to the "selfishness" of it? If someone can't be "selfish" about their own life who can/should be able to decide for them? Whose life is it and why would anyone live their life for someone else who isn't there experiencing every single moment (the good and the bad) of that life?
