The title says it all. I was playing as my pretty newly created Warlock (whom I've named Ezra just 'cause) and suddenly felt the need to jump into a Word Doc and make some pretend-lore just for the fun of it. I'll share more later if I make any. Feel free to make some yourself!
Ghost Fragment: Ezra the Awoken I
--Ghost, record this.
Everything around me is dead. The Moon is nothing but a dead rock with dead ruins of the Golden Age. Amongst them is a memory of a past life. I was a young woman still learning what life was. My dreams at night were to one day explore the cosmos; the Moon was but a step. To feel the weightlessness of space and look down at my home in her full glory was something I’d always hoped to experience. When we – my team and I – arrived on this rock, it was an experience I’ll never forget. Never…never. We weren’t alone on that rock face. The Hive had already claimed it. Everything beneath our feet shifted and shattered as these bugs rose and tore us limb-from-limb. No, I was not reborn in Light, but believe me when I say that the skin on my face and the blood in my veins used to be as real and as human as anyone else’s. We were left for dead, slowly rotting and being devoured by the thick cloud of darkness that had grown in the air (or lack thereof). Ghost, do you remember when you revived me?
--Of course.
--You knew that my body had been claimed by the Darkness, yet you implanted me with your Light anyway. Why is that?
--I had a hunch.
--I don’t trust hunches. I feel that the Light and Darkness inside of me are at perfect balance. As long as I continue to learn how the Darkness controls its allies, I will keep its hands at bay. I will use whatever Light resides in me to devour the Darkness, just as it had done to me that day. I will bathe in the screams of our enemies until my name becomes poison. They took everything from me, and I will return the favor.
--I’m right by your side.
--That’s comforting. Stop recording.

--Ghost, how long until the Hive reach us?
--At this rate, they could appear at any moment.
--Good. That gives me time to talk about a dream I had last night. I dreamt of a little girl. It was Christmas morning and she woke up with an anxious gleam in her eyes. She slipped into her fluffy pink slippers and scurried her way downstairs and into her living room. In the corner of the room was a big Christmas tree littered with ornaments and candy canes. Atop the tree was an angel looking down with her eyes shut. She looked content with the festivities. Underneath the tree were wrapped gifts; and a lot of them. The little girl ran to the tree and began cheering “Santa came! Santa came!” Her parents made their way downstairs and joined her as she opened her gifts and thanked them for each one. The smile on her face radiated throughout the room. When she was finished opening her gifts, she turned to her parents and gave them both big hugs.
--Who was the girl? Someone you used to know?
--It was…it was me.
--Why’d you bring this up now, of all times?
--Well, it makes me happy, and I fight best when I’m happy.
--Then it’s a good thing you brought it up.

Light….what is Light? Why is it capitalized in all of our documents, as though it’s a living thing? Light is not something that lives or breathes. It’s a source of power that we – Guardians – draw from to fight off the Darkness. What is Darkness? Are all of our enemies being used by an actual higher power known as the Darkness, or are they suffering from Light-syndrome where they tend to think Darkness is alive when in actuality it isn’t? I thought this yesterday when killing a band of Fallen. The Fallen and the Hive are both considered forces of the Darkness, yet they persistently fight each other. Do they not realize they share a common enemy? What ever happened to “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”? Huh, what a random fit of rambling. There are probably more important things I could be writing about right now, but some of the things other Warlocks write and talk about is so drop-dead boring and I don’t want to become that type of person. I prefer to mix up my journals so that there’s something a bit more light-hearted to read when I occasionally flip through it. Paper’s starting to run thin…maybe I should get my Ghost to scan this so I can have a permanent record of it. Yeah. I’ll do that.

--Damn it Ghost, record this.
--I am. I am.
--Good. Listen, I don’t know who will stumble upon this, but if you do then I want you to know my parting words. I’ve lived twice. Once in the past and once in the present. The entire time I’ve been here has been like one long dream. I’m still convinced that all of this is just a creation of my subconscious and I’m still a dying body on the Moon, but my Ghost refuses to let me believe that. Wait…wait hold on, we’ve got company. I’m out of ammo, but I didn’t study those elements to not end up using them. Stop the recording. If we make it.......stop the recording.
--Okay, Ghost, record.
--I need to rest.
--This will be quick. Whomever may hear these echoes; disregard the beginning. One thing you have to learn in this life is that you never go about it alone. Not in these times. When your back’s against a wall and you only have your hands and feet to defend yourself, just call to the Light and it’ll send it’s worthiest Guardians to bail you out. Call to the Light? Now I’m suffering from Light-syndrome. My story has not yet ended. OUR story has not yet ended. There are strong forces in the solar system. I think being an Awoken puts me at a disadvantage. The creatures that attack me already know half of my weaknesses. They were bathed in the same power as me, so they know how to battle it. In the end, well, hopefully in the end, Light pulls through. Perhaps one day I will be baptized in Light and will return to my former self. I’m sick of this red hair. Alright, go ahead and rest.
~Stay frosty, Guardians.
