An entire group of 31s I was just with did the Hardmode up to the deathsinger. No 32. We are fine. Just 10 percent less damage than you 32s.
Edit: I get that 31s can't do the entire raid on their owns like a 32, I'm saying why decline one for not being 32. If they can't pull their own weight kick them. Some can some cant.

The raid up to crota is nothing. Easy peasy. Beat crota with that group them come post about it. I will be the first to congratulate you
-
32 got off that horse and praise the sun
-
Luckily I found a great group that was willing to bring along a 31 Titan (albeit with a 331 Ghorn). Had two Titans in group including myself, we split bubble duty and I more than pulled my weight. Got the helm which means I will be 32 next week :)

i did it as a 31

But this is why you join a clan so people can learn how well you can hold your own without questioning your level as "much". Crota on hard is a beach, one person dies its a chance of wipe if you can't kill the oversoul, boomers are much harder to kill and shoot like a machine gun howitzer and can make a Guardian drop like nothing. No chalice as well so you will need alternative means for healing (suros, red death, some armor, character abilities.) If you haven't ever tried it as a 31 you'll see why they wanted 32s when you do.
-
Key word up to DEATHSINGER. Get to Crota then we will talk.
-
It's 20 percent damage per level your under them 32s take 20% more and do 20% less 31s do 40% less and take 40% more it matters and you didn't beat Crota so it means shit. People solo the first 3 parts beat Crota all 31s then try to brag.
-
Well for Crota 31s do way less damage and that's where it matters most. If you are 31 you should play normal mode to get the armor to do hard
-
So we're just supposed to run the 31s up to deathsinger then disband the group and get 32s to finish it? Why wouldn't I just start with the 32s?
-
-blam!- all 32s .. Who say you need to be 32 to do hard mode .. All you need to be is -blam!-ing good
-
On my second clear. Our swordbearer was 31. but he was a beast. Got 3 runs on each sword before ogres
-
Nice work but you have to beat crota with that group for it to be something special.
-
Its only cuz Bungie took the lazy route and raised the enemies above the level cap to make the raid "hard". I miss VoG.

Would've never wanted to add a 31, but this 31 that I did it with was my friend from school I've known for years. We started it up, after a few hours we started our final attempt before I had to get off and at the first sword one 32 with ghorn got an error code and disconnected. We then proceeded to five man it one six person difficulty, with a 31 who hadn't played in awhile and didn't have good guns (he had a non maxed icebreaker and couldn't even stagger boomers.) We actually managed to beat it, and the other dude joined back and was happy he got free rewards. But yea, we five manned it with a 31, so it is possible :) Was also my first time beating it
-
We have had half our team 31s and had very little issues with Crota. As long as you work together and communicate your perfectly fine. Only recommendation is to have your sword bearer a 32.

-
It's all about that crota mang
-
Waaaa!
-
I was able to do crota as the only 31. Maybe I got backpacked i don't think i did because I didn't die hand I was one of two people who had ghorn took 3 tries to do
-
That's the easy bits done next we will see need 32 for sword
-
finally us 32's wont have all the hate from 31's cause they don't need us anymore in their group. that is great news indeed!
-
I've soloed up to Deathsinger so your not saying much
