Mars is not the furthest planet from the sun Neptune is. (Pluto is not considered a planet anymore). However mars is the furthest terrestrial planet from the sun. The other planets past mars are all gas giants. The desert look on Mars is the iron oxide in the air.

All the way through school I was taught it was a planet and now that I've left they shunned pluto out. I will always believe in pluto haha.

Hopefully in July 16 that all changes!! New Horizons should be there for those new pictures.
