Haven't you seen the map screen? Earth, venus, mars and the reef all orbit the tower. Sun is somewhere else.

They also never said it was the asteroid belt, either. The picture on the orbit screen is a purple globe to be selected, like a planet. That was my point - you took it too far, please lighten up.
