Why is Mars not WHITE

Why would the furthest planet from the Sun not be covered in ice and look like a desert? Space Magic? These things confuse me

  • Fail. Mars has very little water, and deserts can be very cold in any case (go visit Las Vegas in January, for example). Mercury is closer to the sun than Venus, but the surface of Venus is hotter due to having an atmosphere to trap heat. And Mars is the furthest out planet that we visit in the game, but it's only fourth farthest of eight (nine if you still claim Pluto as a planet).
