Was only going to reply that you don't even need a telescope to see Mars... That it looks like a red star... ...then I kept reading. And wow... It's like I just walked into the clueless convention. Water on Mars? Too hot? Melting rovers? Ok...... I guess San Diego was too far away to test and make sure their ice cream rovers didn't melt before launching them.
