Further away then earth and it does have ice on it his not lying. But despite the ice it is still quite a red planet.

I know it's brown. but they call it the red planet.

if you look at the nightsky in a clear night(outside of light polluted cities) you can SEE why they said since ten thousands of years that Mars is red.
