To be honest, I'm surprised the number isn't higher. I'm pretty sure a significant majority of British millennials are non-religious, but then again, America is known to be more religious anyway.
Thoughts and opinions?

It may be fair to take into account that in the American Christian landscape--that is, post-Evangelical low-church Evangelicals--many religious people don't consider their religion a religion and will hide behind statements like "it's not a religion but a relationship" and the like. I'd like to see more info about how the study was done and in particular stats about those who identified as having no religion.

Younger people are always less religious... Then they wake up.

I am very lucky to have been born in the UK, to parents that had little or no religious affiliation. We've just gone over 50% non-religious according to recent polls. Now we've just got to start going to the dentist a bit more often and we'll be okay.

Edited by Bantwise Gamgee: 1/29/2015 2:52:02 PMReligion isn't dying out, it's just in 1st world countries where people become unaffiliated. Nobody should think/say religion will die off, it's here to stay people, now get comfortable.

Yeah I can see it. I'm sure people still believe in God, but religions are really weird. I do not trust what they say. Each had their own belief and I'll just stick with prayer and my life. I don't want to give y life to an organization who claims they know what's best.
-
I think it is mostly just deluded millennials rebelling against their Christian families. Plus, they want the logical and euphoric atheist persona to make themselves feel intellectually superior to others (in this case, their religious parents).
-
Good. We need that number higher. Its a pattern throughout history that contributing the unknown to god severely inhibits scientific discovery because the person who might have made the next big discovery got caught in religion.
-
I'm not really surprised. The numbers seem to be going up. I'm just hoping they'll be more accepted in the future.
-
All I can say is I can't wait for the day when being religious is no longer considered a "virtue".
-
Is there a correlation between the strive for equality for all human beings and the rise of religiously unaffiliated individuals? I'm not saying that being unaffiliated with religion is the cause to strive for socioeconomic equality. Also, I'm not a statistician, but it's something to ponder.

If this trend continues, I'd hope for a mini break-resurgence of Christianity. Churches and biblical interpretations today are haywire, and are based not off the bible, but off of twisted word of mouth and whatever information said "Christian" learns from their parents and pastors. IMO, a religious or theology type course system should be implemented into public schools. They would have to fit specific qualifications and be as bias-free as possible, with rigorous instruction and education on important and prominent religious texts. Class discussions would perhaps be held over source material, but the instructor would be required to meet certain qualifications as to remain relatively impartial. I think people who believe and people who don't should know what they believe and what they don't.

I'm glad honestly, America's becoming more civilized

Nice to see the magic guy in the sky act failing finally.

Report: WHO GIVES A FLYING -blam!-?!

How many of those individuals actually practice their religion though? I identify as Catholic for the simple fact that my entire family has but that doesn't mean I take it seriously let alone practice it.
-
1/3 are also unemployed and/or live with their parents... correlation? Probably not :)
-
The real good thing, is that a vast majority want secular government.

I look through this thread and all I see are faggots. Not even any cool, Freddy Mercury-like faggots. Just the regular kind of faggots.

The sad thing about this is that the middle grounds are dwindling. As more and more people question god, the other side is starting to fill up with zealots who have convinced people that there is a "war on religion"
-
So it begins... (God of War 2 Main Menu Theme "The End Begins" plays)
-
Opposite reaction: surprised the number is so high. The article is quick to label such people atheists, but it sounded like they simply did not affiliate with an organized religion. So is this perhaps disenchantment with scandal-ridden churches rather than disbelief in the afterlife?
-
All of them want to be edge lords
-
I think even in the states it's cool to be an Aethist. I want to say I saw a star on the news where belief in god has fallen to 70ish %. I'm anerican. And a ton of my friends are Aethist. I am a Christian. And it's a movement here too
-
Wow, what a bunch of idiots
-
Why does it matter if your religious or non-religious?

I am standing infront of a door. Behind me is everything i know, pleasure and pain. The door has opened to me and through it shines a promise and a voice says to me, let go.
