This is a warning to all Destiny players who are currently using a plasma tv. Do not play Destiny exclusively over the course of a few months. This can cause possible permanent damage to your beloved tv! This happened to my tv with average play time since launch.
The problem lies with the bottom left corner of the HUD containing the super meter, the grenade symbols and the weapon symbols. Most games have static HUD's, but this isn't an issue because pretty much all games have some sort of transparency to the HUD or at least the option to make it transparent. Unfortunately Destiny's HUD on the bottom left is not transparent, it's bright white and bright yellow. Bungie doesn't even offer the option to make it transparent or even less bright! The combination of relatively dark backgrounds with super bright solid hud elements is too much of a risk for plasma! Obviously they did not have plasma tv owners in mind when making this decision.
Here is an example of my tv with a white background
And here is one with a yellow background
I have been attempting to get this image off my screen for a few days now with only slight improvement. Plasma tv burn in on 2009 and up models is almost impossible. Key word, ALMOST! Hopefully over the course of a few months it will fade to be unnoticeable.
Also if anyone was curious I have a Panasonic ST50 that's barely two years old and it's the best looking tv I have ever seen. Incredible response time, black levels and color! I've played countless games on this tv with no issues ever until Destiny. This has pretty much stopped me from playing the game.
*edit* For anyone wondering why I would buy a plasma. Simple answer, best picture you can buy! And for half the cost of top of the line led/lcd tv's. I had an led beforehand that simply had too much imput lag even in game mode, and lackluster picture. I was compelled to buy after playing on a friends pioneer kuro.
*TLDR* Bungie needs to add the option to customize our huds or at least transparency options like pretty much every other game in existence to minimize the risk to plasma tv owners of strong image retention or worst of all, permanent burn in.
*EDIT* After reading the replies plenty of other people have had this same exact issue WITH DESTINY ONLY. Average play time shouldn't ruin our tv's! Bungie, we can play plenty of other games without fear of damage. Please take us into consideration! Game on fellow plasma owners, just not on Destiny...

Nah man that's from either having a very poor quality plasma or one from YEARS ago. And for all the doubters. Plasma technology has been putting out the overall best pictures for a TV for a long time. The tech is dying for other reasons. NOT because LED or LCD panels are better. Lol not by a long shot
-
I remember reading a thread about this just after launch, people were asking for a fix where they could dim the hud. Bungie provided a quick update to fix it..... Oh wait no they did -blam!- all like they usually do
-
This is very true. If you own a plasma, be extra careful. My 6 month old Samsung F8500 experienced Destiny burn in and I ultimately had to get rid of it.
-
Same thing has happened to my LED tv. With the health bar
-
I have this issue on my Plasma too. It would be awesome if bungie provided the option to move it or change the transparency.
-
I have same problem, but I have another older Plasma TV that I've been forced to switch to (in the cold Basement), haven't checked to see how the IR is doin, I'm afraid to see it's still there - hopefully going away slowly but surely with Screen Wipe Mode or static channel. Destiny does need to have an option to do something about the bright ass HUD!

Edited by Mr Flood: 1/29/2015 7:33:31 PMMy plasma TV will forever have the gun and health HUD from destiny on it. :(
-
Don't let this thread die :/
-
I have a 60" Panasonic ST60 and this looks exactly like mine! I try to do the screen wipe but I'm afraid it's burnt in.... :/ Any remedies out there?
-
Image burn can happen with any TV.
-
My plasma is just over 9 years old, never had any issues with it what so ever. I read this thread a few nights back, was looking at new TVs in tesco earlier, I get back and my TV starts to play up xD Finally got it working again, checked the White screen thing and I can see my health bar/HuD in the bottom corner. This makes me sad :(

I have the same thing on my TV. Sucks, but to be fair, I hardly notice it now

Edited by CountZakula: 1/31/2015 7:57:52 AMScreen burning has been a known and well documented problem with plasma screen TV's for years now. They're no good if you're going to game for long sessions, it's on you for not doing your research before you purchased the TV. EDIT: spelling error EDIT again because this part specifically needs addressing:
After reading the replies plenty of other people have had this same exact issue WITH DESTINY ONLY. Average play time shouldn't ruin our tv's! Bungie, we can play plenty of other games without fear of damage. Please take us into consideration! Game on fellow plasma owners, just not on Destiny
This is not Destiny specific problem, it only seems like it because most people who care enough to be on the forums play regularly, and for long sessions. This can happen with any game if you play long sessions of just that game regularly, and like I said before you shouldn't have bought a plasma if you game a lot. I'm not gonna get into an argument on which kind of TV has the better picture, but the fact of the matter is plasma TVs are no good for people who game heavily because of this exact reason.
Average play time shouldn't ruin our tv's!
Well you bought a plasma, so you should have known that average playtime with any game can, and will ruin your TV. That's just a fact.
Bungie, we can play plenty of other games without fear of damage.
Again, this is false. It all depends on how regularly you play a specific game for long sessions on a plasma.
Please take us into consideration!
A development company shouldn't have to cater to your poor decisions.

Happened to my Panny plasma with CoD as well. Not just a Destiny thing.

My VT65 has a built in feature that resets the pixels if there is burn in for any reason. Regardless I haven't noticed any burn in at all on my set and I play quite a bit. Sounds like you could use some settings tweaks to help out your picture. I also cycled my TV with still images of solid colors for 72 hours before I even plugged the cable in, so maybe the process I spent 'breaking in' helped me out. Either way, sucks for you.
-
Ya, this happened on my samsung plasma
-
Lets blame bungie for my problems! Yeah, insufficient evidence, these are just claims. Get gud
-
Whats plasma ...??
-
Don't blame destiny because of your $h|t tv.. You knew his would've eventually happened to your plasma tv.
-
Get rid of the plasma. That shits old school
-
The reason Plasma TVs are so cheap is because of exactly this problem. If the risk of an eventual "burnt in image" is worth the couple bucks you save thanks to that is completely up to you. I mean come on, nowadays there are pretty cheap LED TVs arround which also consume less power. You are seeking the fault on the dev's side. Not on yours. If I was a console dev, which I am not, only a iOS dev, and if you came to me with this problem I would simply say "go -blam!- yourself, you choosed this option to save a couple of bucks and you took the risk." Burnt in images on plasma TVs are literally the biggest known issue about them and you clearly knew about the risk. Just because other game devs had the idea to build in such an option doesn't mean every dev has to do that just so you can enjoy your game without trashing your already crappy TV.

Edited by ZEED: 2/5/2015 12:44:20 PMSame here mate i had to quit destiny due to that. Have You tried running Pixel Jogger for few days ?? Guess it wont save it now i stopped after i noticed. Anyhow run that for 100 hours plus full White screen for 10 hours. If that does not help thats permament. I know mine is as I ran it for 7 days on LOOP !!!! BTW my mate has permament burn on 5 year old sony LCD TV .....
-
People still use plasma...
-
plamas suck , thats the reason i bought LED's , because i knew i was gonna use em mainly for gaming
-
Edited by Taggin T: 2/5/2015 1:29:38 PMWhy do you even own a plasma tv? I never bought one because they are trash and the screens burn just like the above picture. Dump it, buy an LED, learn how to play better so your super isn't always being wasted.
