*CAUTION* Destiny Can Ruin Your Plasma TV!

This is a warning to all Destiny players who are currently using a plasma tv. Do not play Destiny exclusively over the course of a few months. This can cause possible permanent damage to your beloved tv! This happened to my tv with average play time since launch. The problem lies with the bottom left corner of the HUD containing the super meter, the grenade symbols and the weapon symbols. Most games have static HUD's, but this isn't an issue because pretty much all games have some sort of transparency to the HUD or at least the option to make it transparent. Unfortunately Destiny's HUD on the bottom left is not transparent, it's bright white and bright yellow. Bungie doesn't even offer the option to make it transparent or even less bright! The combination of relatively dark backgrounds with super bright solid hud elements is too much of a risk for plasma! Obviously they did not have plasma tv owners in mind when making this decision. Here is an example of my tv with a white background And here is one with a yellow background I have been attempting to get this image off my screen for a few days now with only slight improvement. Plasma tv burn in on 2009 and up models is almost impossible. Key word, ALMOST! Hopefully over the course of a few months it will fade to be unnoticeable. Also if anyone was curious I have a Panasonic ST50 that's barely two years old and it's the best looking tv I have ever seen. Incredible response time, black levels and color! I've played countless games on this tv with no issues ever until Destiny. This has pretty much stopped me from playing the game. *edit* For anyone wondering why I would buy a plasma. Simple answer, best picture you can buy! And for half the cost of top of the line led/lcd tv's. I had an led beforehand that simply had too much imput lag even in game mode, and lackluster picture. I was compelled to buy after playing on a friends pioneer kuro. *TLDR* Bungie needs to add the option to customize our huds or at least transparency options like pretty much every other game in existence to minimize the risk to plasma tv owners of strong image retention or worst of all, permanent burn in. *EDIT* After reading the replies plenty of other people have had this same exact issue WITH DESTINY ONLY. Average play time shouldn't ruin our tv's! Bungie, we can play plenty of other games without fear of damage. Please take us into consideration! Game on fellow plasma owners, just not on Destiny...

Image Retention is not a problem anymore.....i have over 400 hours on destiny and my image retention fades after watching movies and playing other games for awhile....make sure that you have Pixel Shift ON to lessen the severity of the "Phospher Age" for HUDs.....Samsung PN58B650

    • I have a Samsung 42' Plasma TV and I've played Destiny since launch and game almost daily for hours if I have the time. My TV is perfectly fine. Plasma TVs aren't shitty they're meant for dark areas so a living room with daylight always leaking into the room is obviously stupid. It's meant for a bedroom or downstairs where you usually cover the windows. Today I've played 3 hrs of Destiny and so far no burning. I think it may be just the specific brand? Samsung has never let me down so I will always buy their stuff worry free.

    • That means you have an old tv. All the newer ones (5+ years old) don't have that problem with images burning into them. I have a Sony 55" plasma and I've been playing destiny sense beta and I don't have this issue

That's why you don't game on a plasma tv. It's not destiny's fault. There are tons of games with huds that can burn in. Get led or oled or lcd

        • Once OLED is the norm, this wouldn't even be a discussion. Too bad any OLED out is very expensive. Until then, I'm satisfied with my LED.

        • This is the nature of a plasma TV. Use to sell TVs at Circuit City in college. I love them for their natural black levels, deep colors, and their ability to handle motion. Their only downside is increased chance of burn in. It can happen on LCDs as well. Newer Plasmas actually have a white wash option in the settings to get rid of it but your essentially burning a white screen into your TV to wash out the original burn in.

        • This only happens with still images, if you let it sit for longs periods of time with NO movement it happens. So basically if youblet your super, grenades, and melee, go unused for a long time... Its your fault. Thats just a risk of plasma tvs if you dont take care of them

                • There is a difference between burn in and image retention. Burn in is permanent and image retention is temporary. I have a high end panasonic thats a few years old and I do get the occasion IR but thats it. And not to turn this into an lcd led plasma pissing contest but plasmas really do offer the best in picture quality, unfortunately led's is whats popular.

                  • ...................................all content displayed on your plasma television will damage it over time. It has a terrible obsolescence and color grading that was quickly being beaten out by the lcd technology of 5-6 years prior. Essentially, destiny didn't ruin your television, your television simply is living it's life. Surprise though, it's the future now. Led technology has revolutionized our screens potential resolutions and color accuracy. Long ago plasma's ability to reach ranges of the spectrum impossible to reproduce with led mixes. After the tremendous struggle associated with the blue LED, manufacturing has kind nailed it in terms of back lighting and grading...So yeah... I have to say it seems to be a good time to say bye to plasma gaming can look wonderful on led backlit panels. They solve a large number of issues that really come from the number of other issues of using trapped inert gas as a light feed source.
