This is a warning to all Destiny players who are currently using a plasma tv. Do not play Destiny exclusively over the course of a few months. This can cause possible permanent damage to your beloved tv! This happened to my tv with average play time since launch.
The problem lies with the bottom left corner of the HUD containing the super meter, the grenade symbols and the weapon symbols. Most games have static HUD's, but this isn't an issue because pretty much all games have some sort of transparency to the HUD or at least the option to make it transparent. Unfortunately Destiny's HUD on the bottom left is not transparent, it's bright white and bright yellow. Bungie doesn't even offer the option to make it transparent or even less bright! The combination of relatively dark backgrounds with super bright solid hud elements is too much of a risk for plasma! Obviously they did not have plasma tv owners in mind when making this decision.
Here is an example of my tv with a white background
And here is one with a yellow background
I have been attempting to get this image off my screen for a few days now with only slight improvement. Plasma tv burn in on 2009 and up models is almost impossible. Key word, ALMOST! Hopefully over the course of a few months it will fade to be unnoticeable.
Also if anyone was curious I have a Panasonic ST50 that's barely two years old and it's the best looking tv I have ever seen. Incredible response time, black levels and color! I've played countless games on this tv with no issues ever until Destiny. This has pretty much stopped me from playing the game.
*edit* For anyone wondering why I would buy a plasma. Simple answer, best picture you can buy! And for half the cost of top of the line led/lcd tv's. I had an led beforehand that simply had too much imput lag even in game mode, and lackluster picture. I was compelled to buy after playing on a friends pioneer kuro.
*TLDR* Bungie needs to add the option to customize our huds or at least transparency options like pretty much every other game in existence to minimize the risk to plasma tv owners of strong image retention or worst of all, permanent burn in.
*EDIT* After reading the replies plenty of other people have had this same exact issue WITH DESTINY ONLY. Average play time shouldn't ruin our tv's! Bungie, we can play plenty of other games without fear of damage. Please take us into consideration! Game on fellow plasma owners, just not on Destiny...

Gaming monitor's are the best
-
That's y I've never owned a plasma and never will.
-
I cannot play on a huge plasma I have a 65 inch and nah man couldn't do so I went back to go ol reliable 32 in and works perfect :) and more comfortable :)
-
Obvious solutions: Never buy plasma screen TVs Never play video games on plasma TVs Never buy plasma screen TVs Should've been using your super more Never buy plasma screen TVs Buy an LED TV Never buy plasma screen TVs
-
Who the hell still has a plasma. You might as well play on a tube TV
-
I have a 65 inch 4k sony that has way better picture quality with very minimal decrease in contrast, with full array local dimming it has nearly perfect black levels. And super white whites. Maybe you should do your research before you think plasmas have better picture quality. There an outdated tech

Using a plasma TV for games is kinda dumb. My friend did the same thing and nearly burned the hotbar in mine craft into his screen. Plasma tvs are meant for movies. Not prolonged gaming sessions
-
Wow idiot. Next time don't use plasma for video games.
-
Use your super when you have it.
-
Time to get a bigger and better TV!
-
This just in, plasma TVs burn in and are heavy. News at 11.
-
Why do you have a plasma in the first place? Plasma TVs were the most overhyped piece of junk to ever be made. It has insane glare, the life span is crap, you move slightly to one side and half the screen is black to you. They recently stopped making them altogether. Buy a new TV you wasted money on yours.
-
And who didn't know plasmas have a burn in problem. And if plasmas were all that great they wouldn't be dwindling away in the market like they are..
-
42 plasma 3 55" tv Sony and Samsung Played on all and noticed it started to burn in on the plasma Even with these tvs I now play on a gaming monitor. Just feels so much better. I'd advise looking into a gaming monitor.

everything ruins plasma TVs, they're garbage
-
Plasma is bad. Morbeus liked extracting plasma from humans and Spider-Man dealt with him. Lesson for the day. Stay away from plasma and plasma sucking dudes.
-
It's called burn in. It can happen on any content that has a object that doesn't move. Projection and plasma's had that problem. Time to get a LED. If you're interested in LED's with settings specifically designed for gaming look into LG or Sharp.

Edited by Toolieo: 1/29/2015 12:19:12 AMThat's why I buy LCD's for gaming. Plasma's are cheap because they're sh!t.
-
I hate to inform you but that has been an ongoing problem with TVs for years now. It started with the old school picture tubs, and still is a problem with TVs today. I never game for more then a few hours at a time anyway so not that big a deal for me.
-
Exactly the reason why I brought LED just for playing video games. My plasma is movies exclusive only. Plasma FTW.
-
Mr deej posted about some fix apparently coming for this a while back.
-
My plasma does this with everything including netflix. You can always see the last thing that was played. It's faint but on a black screen even it's there. Sga don't watch porn on the living room tv
-
Same issue. VT60. Irritating more than bothersome, but yes they need to add a better HUD option for plasma owners please.

Edited by The Quicken: 1/29/2015 12:23:15 AMI always play on plasma- can't stand led (I see the difference in refresh rate.) I have a 50" GT30, what you are seeing is not IMAGE BURN, this is IMAGE RETENTION. Your ST is newer/better than mine- It will wash out. Gamed thousands of hours on my Panny S model, got some pretty good image retention-- all gone now.

Nightfall this week is plasma burn!
