The terrain on Mars is a greyish color. It's atmosphere makes it appear to be red. Mars should be a greyish color. I like that it's red though, it appeals to some of us who have always wanted to see other planets and I think bungie did a decent job.

  • Large amounts of oxidized iron (rust) in the soil of Mars is what makes it appear red/brown. There are other colors but the majority is rust. Look at pics from the Mars rover when the sun is overhead, the sky isn't really red, just the soil.
