Mars is commonly called the red planet for a reason. Outside of earth it's probably the most habitual planet in our system. It's far from the sun but it's NOT that far to make it a ball of ice like say, the dwarf planet pluto(or as some say, Neptune's long lost moon that drifted out of its orbit)
