Aw, what a memorable time that was for us! When we decided to have our two kids 10 years ago, I had convinced my wife that we should not be tempted by the technology available in knowing the gender of the kids. I wanted the element of surprise and that I was not concerned with getting the room(s) ready ahead of time. Nor did I care for having a baby shower before the baby was actually born. She felt the same way even though later she was being pressured a bit from friends and family. But she held firm to the decision we had made.
Long story short. I had from day one referred to the first pregnancy as a her. Every time I spoke to my wife or anybody for that matter, I always referred the baby as a girl. My wife would always respond with a reply of "How do you know and why are you so sure of yourself!?"
All I can say is that is what I wanted first and that I was convinced within myself that it was a girl. So imagine my surprise when the doctor announced that it was a girl upon delivery!?
Same thing with my son too. I referred to him as a boy from day one. My wife was convinced then that I couldn't be right a second time. But the best and scariest thing of all is that I was the one that delivered him in our house in the master bathroom on the floor. Yep, we didn't make it to the hospital and this one was coming quick. We were just so grateful that everything went well and by the book on his birth. What an experience that was!
