Hmm. That's an interesting thought. As a math major, I'm compelled to disprove it (or prove this)
Now, how I have it written they aren't mirroring you. If they were they'd move forward if you move forward not back. They're just being input the same commands you're putting in. So since they'd spawn in front of you facing you, if you shoot to the left, they'll shoot to their left which will be your right. If they were being mirrored then their commands would be input the same except negative. You shoot left and then they'll shoot their right which is also your left. When they're mirrored the bullets collide, but when they mimic you (which probably isn't the best terminology) the bullets will only collide with your doppelgangers when shot at each other. Its kind of like shining a laser into a mirror; you only blind yourself when you shine it into your reflection's eye.
Edit: (If they were mirroring rather than mimicking) After a few quick drawings I've managed to disprove that mirror statement. No matter where your doppelganger spawns, halfway perpendicular to the line between the pair of guardians is an imaginary mirror. If I shoot to the right at a some angle (theta) parallel to the mirror then so will the doppelganger. At any point of the crossfire of my bullets could lie my friends doppelganger but my friend may not necessarily lie on my doppelgangers crossfire. My friend and their doppelganger would have to be distanced proportional to the angle that I shoot at and they'd also have to be parallel to me and my own doppelganger. What if me and my doppelganger are perpendicular to my friends? Then I could theoretically get me and my doppelganger to both shoot my friends doppelganger. Which raises the question... What happens when a doppelganger shoots another doppelganger?
I could tell you...
Edit: After changing the floating platform to a circle, it'd only make sense to have the mirroring point at the center, where your doppelganger will spawn at the same distance from the center. This way, the mirror effect works, and makes my previous example impossible. Thanks for making me think twice about it.
