Would probably do this just to find an Uncommon weapon with the Shoot to Loot perk.

What's the shoot to loot perk?

You can shoot ammo to pick it up. I have a green (uncommon) sniper rifle that I keep just for that purpose. Say you're doing a nightfall and you see heavy ammo on the other side of the room. It would normally be suicide to attempt to run in there in get it. No problem. I pull out my sniper and shoot the ammo... Like magic.

Yea I have a sniper for that too along with a scout rifle both are rare

They can appear on Rare weapons as well? Hm, I should look into that.

Yea it's a good weapon for farming or boss fights where you need to stay behind cover
